With this painting, I started to experiment more with brushstrokes and adding highlights to the hair. This image was taken of my son in his karate uniform. I took some pictures (with my digital camera) of him with, and without glasses. The ones with him wearing his glasses really brought out his personality.

What I learned with creating this painting and the earlier one of Bianca was this; I was using pure black paint to give me darks (a no no). Being my second portrait, of course I was very pleased but was told that the best way to get real darks are by mixing your existing colours, not by using black out of a tube. You will see the next one of my husband's Grandma (now deceased) has a much more realistic look.
