Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign Training
Sylvie Verwaayen has specialized in custom computer graphic training since 1992. Whether it is one on one or small groups, more can be covered in this scenario than within a "classroom" setting. If you are looking for more information on training, please fill out the form under the "Contact" menu.
About the Instructor
An experienced Adobe Instructor since 1992, custom training is one of Sylvie's specialities. Creating training that is specific to the clients needs is how she has always conducted her graphic training business.
She researched, developed and taught the original Illustrator course (30 hours) at Fanshawe Continuing Education. She also did the same with the Photoshop course (30 hours) for Fanshawe. She taught many other print and web based courses as well, but Illustrator and Photoshop are the ones that she has continued to use over the years the most. She also owns the Adobe Creative Suite 6 software package.
Sylvie is a graduate of BealArt (advertising art and photography) and Fanshawe Design (Industrial Design). Sylvie's third year independent student project won the RESNA International Student Design Competition for 2002.
Sylvie taught through corporate training companies in London including Productivity Point and Executrain . She has also had her own training clients including Labatts, 3M and many other businesses throughout Southwestern Ontario including Kitchener City Hall Planning Department. It was during this time that she honed her skills creating custom training for clients. She also was hired on contract by Desktop Publishing Associates to teach a 2 day Illustrator course in the early 2000's in Toronto. She received excellent feedback from her students there but when asked to return to teach, she decided that her priority was teaching in London and therefore did not go back.
She also researched and developed and taught, through Fanshawe Continuing Ed, a 56 hour course called Graphic Designing Electronically where the course included colour and design theory, typography and included Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and PageMaker (she now uses InDesign). Outputting designs to print and web were also covered.
Sylvie started web designing for a local ISP in 1996 and learned to create not only entire websites, but also how to create beautiful graphics for a (at the time) slow download speeds. She created the original websites for Pointts the Traffic Ticket Specialists and East Park Garden / Maple Ridge Golf Club and many more. She was able to take lessons learned from these experiences and include them in her training, helping others to design their websites. A simple thing like story boarding can be a very strong tool.
Sylvie's knowledge of webdesign also helped launch Canada Trust's EasyWeb online banking. Her husband was the creator of EasyWeb and she was asked to create an html mock up to show executives what it would look like. Once the website went live, all the pages that Sylvie originally designed literally were copied and pasted. For 2 years after the website launch, while in the browser, if you went to see "source code" you would see Sylvie's original code with the text "designed by SylverDesign and Instruction". This was a kudo that she was able to leverage with her training clients.
During 2000-2002 Sylvie was an instructor at the Urban Design program at Fanshawe. She taught students how to use their CAD based files and bring them into Adobe and Corel programs to create printed portfolio pieces, website design and presentations. This course had never been available before and she course developed and created all materials for the students.
Sylvie currently runs art classes through her home studio.
